Primary work - Emily Ketteringham work

Bye bye Greeks. Hello work inspired by local artist and waterways.

Emily Ketteringham is a Bristol based artist, who creates collages, screenprints and prints of scenes in and around Bristol. The class have been studying her styles, doing some sketches and copying some of Emily's drawings/work.

Here are some of their sketches:

Once we'd looked at a few photos of Bristol buildings and skylines they had to work on one picture, that I'd cut in half. We used this image of Windsor Terrace and Bonded warehouses, looking across the Cumberland Basin:
Copyright Emily Ketteringham

We had noticed the way Emily uses simple lines to outlines of buildings and the landscape that disappear off the page, or appear within her detailed images.

I cut the image in half, (we eventually joined them back together), and the children had to discuss what they would see either side of the image and create the rest of the cityscape.

I love what they produced and their collaboration. Lots for them to be proud of.

Happy January.

Greek Theatre Masks!

Greek masks made from A4 paper, twirls of paper strips, extreme expressions (gotta make sure people at the back knew what you were feeling!), noses and wild beards!

Good to be back in the junior school one afternoon a week.

Watch this space for further creations.

Kirigami craze...

I came across this lovely Kirigami (origami and paper cutting) kit in a local toy shop, Playful, and was drawn to the beautiful paper and shape of the paper balls.

I'm very in love with the paper and wish the designs were on fabric too.
Dreaming of this on fabric....

Can't contemplate using this yet....too gorgeous!

Because I want to fuss over the beautiful paper for a while I copied the template and made up, with the help of Craft Club members & my daughter and her friends, the following paper balls using paper from IKEA.

With thanks to Emma, Nina & Hettie

With thanks to the Craft Clubbers!

Aren't they

gorgeous?

The Embroidery bug!

While 2012 Olympic fever has filled the house, my 10 year old and I have caught the embroidery bug! I bought a lovely book called Doodle Stitching by Aimee Ray

I set my daughter the task of creating a sample of all the stitches, shown in the front of the book.
Progress was good...some frustration too!
Once she completed the apprenticeship, she was away, tracing the motifs and marking them on the white fabric.
Here's what she did..

The green duckling was a creation from Lace Club,
run by a teacher my daughter's school.

I also got involved in the bug and made an elephant - soon to be properly framed.

Luckily for us, my mum was visiting and she organised the stray and messy threads! Thanks mum x

Now our neighbour has returned from holiday she is now creating a sample of stitches, the embroidery bug is infectious!

Olympic Pennants Flags - where will ours end up?

Last summer we made some flags for an olympics project - here's the blog entry - Our flags

We were wondering where will our flag end up? Which athlete and country will take our flag home? Will they also be taking a medal home with them? .....
